How to Pinterest

Facebook and Twitter aren’t the only social media sites however, sites like Pinterest and Google+ often get forgotten but they can be just as entertaining, useful and important as Facebook and Twitter.

Alright so you’re following a couple of people. Now I want you to click on the Pinterest button at the very top of the page. That will take you “home”. You’ll see that it says “discover more images to pin!” You can continue to find people or click on the gray text that says “following.” You’ll notice that you have a bunch of pins showing up. These are pins from the people who you just followed. This area is like the Newsfeed on Facebook.

It is here the chunk of battle between Pinterest and Tumblr is being fought. Tumblr.com holds sway over the younger breed in the 18-24 years range whereas Pinterest has a tight grip on the 35-44 years range.

Most freelancers, specifically virtual assistants from countries like the Philippines, boast a great understanding of Facebook and Twitter and can offer clients a range of services related to these sites, but how many freelancers are familiar with Pinterest and Google+ and know exactly how to make them work for their clients and for themselves as well?

Well I will not start that again “Pinterest is fourth largest referral traffic provider”, it is one of the biggest social website, you all already know that pinterest has gained vital importance in social websites, but the thing is that the concept of pinterest is really different from other social websites that’s why it is a lot more fun on pinterest.

Giving each panel on your Pinterest user profile a fun and exclusive, but easy to understand, name is an important part of gaining new supporters. Since many members tend to only adhere to it’s that are most appropriate to them, it’s essential that your panel brands allow it to be instantly obvious what each of your boards are about.

Pinterest is the most well-known new way to improve your visibility and stability online. By interacting, getting structured, creating up exciting Boards and staying engaged, your Pinterest supporters will be more than just trustworthy fans, they will be a 100 % totally free marketing energy.

What I like most about Pinterest is that the boards create a visual space to remember the things that you like. When you double click on the pinned photo it will take you to the original source of the image, where you can find out more about the artist or writer from where the image came from. I find “pinning” much more intuitive then just bookmarking a site, because you have a visual of the things you are interested in (have you ever gone back to your bookmarks and tried to find that special bookmark?) Pinning is much better than bookmarking in my opinion!

So how can you monetize Pinterest? Naturally you will pin a lot of interesting images that relate to niches in which you may have items to sell or you are an affiliate for. But remember your demographic. If you are pinning many fishing gear and car accessories you almost certainly will not get much interest. You have to go for fashion, books, and all things related to home decor, beauty and fitness. Weddings, clothing and food are some of the most popular niches on Pinterest and most product pins from these niches are things that you could get affiliate links for.

When someone pins an image, Pinterest doesn’t just store a small thumbnail graphic with a link back to the site, as most social media sites do. Instead, pinning an image stores a full-sized copy, or at least a 500+ pixel copy, on Pinterest. A thumbnail tempts people to click and view the real thing; a full-sized copy doesn’t.

The 2nd thing you certainly should do if you are going to use Pinterest for internet marketing is affiliate link cloaking. Pinterest has a novel feature that they use to take advantage of affiliates- they discover affiliate links and replace the affiliates user name with their own!

I’m sure most Pinterest members don’t mean to violate copyright, and they wouldn’t dream of pirating and posting a commercial movie online. However, it seems to me that they’re doing something similar. The chief difference is the victim: a small-time artist or photographer trying to eke out a living, instead of a big-budget movie studio raking in the bucks.
