Has social media replaced traditional marketing?

The impact of social media on today’s marketing is incredible and widely accepted. Millions of companies are switching to social media for the promotions and publicity of their brands and services as it’s a less expensive and more effective way of marketing. Numerous people whether old or young use social media for different perspectives such as social interactions, making new friends, joining their college groups, learning new things or getting latest news. In spite of all these benefits and millions of users on social media, it is not successful in replacing traditional marketing completely. Certainly traditional marketing has become a less preferred idea but for various companies it is an important way of marketing and much of their profit depends upon traditional marketing strategies.
There are several misconceptions about the traditional marketing, probably created by the digital marketers to incite customers to switch towards online marketing. Two main misconceptions are following:

Internet is Best For Every Kind Of Advertising:

It’s true that online marketing especially social media marketing is really popular these days and everyone is availing it to get profit and promotions but for some businesses it’s not an appropriate one. If you own a home inspection firm, a b2b company that have customers of age 45 to 50 or develop outfits for elder people then you should make use of traditional marketing as there is greater possibility that many of your consumers are not social media users.

In many cases, complete replacement of traditional marketing from social media marketing is proved disastrous as not everyone has access to social media despite of its popularity. Many people still use to read newspapers daily and watch TV for at least 1 hour daily for news or entertainment. It’s a proved fact that people are attracted more towards the visual stuff then the written descriptions so television is considered the best way of traditional marketing.

People don’t watch TV or Read Newspapers and Banners:

Many social media marketers claim that traditional marketing is wiped out in this era of internet. I want to ask them do they watch Football matches with their families on their Laptop? Does their family and friends sit around their computer for watching American Idol or Masterchef? No one read newspapers or magazines at their home? Don’t they read billboards on the roads? Don’t they listen to music and podcasts on radio? The answer of all these questions tells that traditional marketing is still alive and is more valuable than any other form of marketing.

Social Media Marketing Compliment Traditional Marketing:

Instead of replacing, social media marketing compliments the traditional marketing. We can find traditional ads on social media in the forms of videos, and scanned newspaper pages. Marketers use social media to make their television ads more popular, if audience like them they share them on their timelines which increases the value of these ads. Traditional marketing introduces new products to the public and social media clears any doubts among public regarding these products by replying to customer’s comments. Social media helps in building trustworthy relations with the customers.

Traditional and social media marketing go hand in hand to get more achievements and trust of customers.
