Hello and welcome to this week’s social media minute with Leanne Peard, your social media trainer. Today I want to talk about Businesses using Pokemon Go for their marketing. Just recently in Cairns we had a Pokemon walk and we had over five hundred people engaged in that walk to search the city and find Pokemons. I think it’s a brilliant idea. The interesting thing is that I did a Facebook live last week on how business owners can use Pokemon to build foot traffic and increase the awareness around their business. I found a really interesting article that talks about eight businesses that have taken this on board and are actually doing something with this trending app . I want to share this with you because it may give you a few idea’s about taking the Pokemon Go app to another level for your marketing.
This first businesses using Pokemon Go for their marketing is Readings bookstore who has capitalized on a nearby Pokemon stop with an artistic take on Pokemon balls. They’ve created a heap of books with red and white at the bottom to make it look like a Pokemon ball.
Woolworths have given Facebook fans tips on how to catch Pokemons in their store. They’ve said how shoppers in a recent post, advice on how to avoid the Pokemon such as Zubat. That’s pretty cool for Woolworths.

Virgin Mobile allows trainers to top up their mobile phones for free in store because the Pokemon game draws a lot of juice out of your battery, they’ve been able to give them free charge instead of the gamers carrying around portable devices, which is really cool.
Doughnut Time took an Instagram photo to promote the Pokeball Nutella filled donuts. They’ve actually created a product which looks like the Pokemon balls.
East Brunswick Hotel in Melbourne has erected a sign out of the front of their pub which also doubles as a Gym location for the game. The sign says that it gives a free jug of beer to the current leader of the Gym, which is a good way to entice people into your premises.

Melbourne Central Park Parlor has set up a number of Pokemon nights at the store. Users can pay $12 for some pancakes, free WiFi and constant lure module activation. A Lure which is what a business owner can buy to attract Pokemons to your area are purchased inside the game and they last for up to 30 minutes at a time. Great idea.
Australian Bananas use Facebook to warn users of the Pokemon known as Menki hiding in bananas nation-wide. Pretty cool. Finally, A New Zealand Airlines,promoted its Pokemon catching chat story on Instagram posting an image of a rocket-type Pokemon … I’m not going to be able to say this right, Geodude, having one of its primary moves as an earthquake. This is not something that you really want near a plane or an airport, but anyway.
These are really good tips that business owners are using to engage and increase their marketing efforts on this phenomenon of Pokemon Go.

Can you use a lure?
Can you make a Pokemon stop?
Can you offer free things or free drinks or entice people that are playing the game into your store?
